Erdem: Romantic Spring Days and Nights

Fashion collection: Erdem Spring/Summer 2011:
"He takes all his strongest components - dresses, lace and florals - and works them together so beautifully," says Kate Phelan.

Erdem Moralioglu's Spring 2011 RTW Collection held in the tranquil surroundings of one of central London’s garden squares started off with all white lace emsembles and followed with gorgeous springtime floral prints. Everything from the outdoor setting (white stage surrounded with water) to the awesome crossover heels felt perfectly beautiful.

“The shapes were all about ballet,” said the designer who had spent the summer looking through the Ballets Russes’ amazing costume archive exhibition that was launched at London’s Victoria & Albert museum in summer. This inspiration translated into shift dresses in floral prints, stunning long chiffon gowns and lovely tutu-style lace separates that dominated the runway.

Favoured by the likes of celebrities and models such as Keira Knightely, Claudia Schiffer and Chloe Sevigny, Erdem's feminine pieces always strike the right chord amongst ladies who adore romantic styles and his Spring 2011 collection sure did not disappoint.

5 Erdem Looks to Love:
The dainty lace separates that make us just want to go on a romantic date, dont they?

Erdem’s signature floral prints were out in force too, just like delicate mountain flowers bloomed in gorgeous shades of yellow, green and red on the prim white shift dresses.

This collection was not all sweetness and innocence; Erdem lovingly designed some sophisticated numbers too.

Everything in this collection spells spring - floral prints, lace ensembles, free flowing chiffon sun dresses, maxi dresses and skirt separates, they truly exemplify the charm and elegance of romantic spring days and nights.

It's no wonder this young designer, whose dresses were donned by both British and American first ladies, is up for Designer of the Year at British Fashion Awards 2010.

Lace 'em up

Spring/Summer 2011 trends:
Inspired by the elegance and fluidity of ballerinas, the charm of lace lies in its subtle sensuality. One gets all the bonuses that come with a little skin exposure, without having to reveal much at all.

Lace was previously seen mostly in lingerie, but we are now dealing with lace in almost every kind of garments in many fashion shows. The larger fashion brands like Alberta Ferretti, D&G, Ralph Lauren, BCBG Max Azria and Erdem have introduced their designs for Spring/Summer 2011 with loads of lace.

Alberta Ferretti Spring 2011

Romantic and flowy dresses of light fabrics and lace embraced the Alberta Ferretti Spring/Summer 2011 collection. The classy floral patterned lace gave the emsembles a vintage feel to them. With the rendering of gorgeous crocheted lace bands, this collection reminds me just of a romantic date, doesnt it?

Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2011

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana's latest line is truly in the essence of Spring. It is everything you dream of for the light-hearted season: lace, ruffles and florals. My favourite bit? The delicate lace designs that are too darling for words. Inspired by traditional Italian lace-makers, this collection was established on their fine custom of tailoring and stitching shown especially in the details of lace and floral appliques.

Ralph Lauren Spring 2001

In Ralph Lauren's Spring 2011 collection, lace is one of the main attraction points that complement the monochromatic ensembles.
Ralph evokes the vintage accents portrayed through lace, fringes and crochet hems. Definitely one of his best collections by far.

BCBG Max Azria Spring 2011 RTW
The BCBG show kicked off with a collection of all-white dresses with bits of intricate lace everywhere. The pieces looked so fresh and clean, i can hardly take my eyes off them.

Erdem Spring/Summer 2011

Erdem Spring 2011 - yet another awesome collection which i have a current love affair with. Lace, light fabrics, florals and a sense of romance are in the air this season especially at Erdem's runway held in one of London's gardens. The delicate lace, lovely colours and cut simply spell perfection.

The definitive balance of lace in spring 2011 is to be romantic yet not over-dainty; sensual and not over-suggestive. Be liberated to indulge in the depth of lace fashion and allow yourself be overwhelmed and won over by the breathtaking vision.

Audi Fashion Festival, truly second to none

The second installment of Audi Fashion Festival 2010 in Singapore - i was anticipating for this day to come like a kid fervently awaiting to open his new toy. 28th April came longer than sooner though! When i arrived, i was greeted by the awesome interior furnishing. I was truly impressed. With a host of big brands such as  Marchesa, Roberto Cavalli, KTZ and Dsquared² just to name a few and not forgetting our local favourite alldressedup, i had a high expectation for what was going to start in a few moments.

To kick off, the highly anticipated Fall/Winter 2010 Collection opening show by Dsquared²

Even though i was mesmerized by the presence and good looks of the Canadian twin brothers of Dsquared² during the opening show, I was equally captivated by their collection. Also present during the opening show was the Estonian Supermodel, Carmen Kass who was effortlessly gorgeous that day.

Lovely pieces from Marchesa

Fall/Winter 2010, alldressedup

"Utility, twisted romantic grunge, fluid tailoring, global travel and confident dressing up," these elements were all covered in Warehouse Spring/Summer 2010 collection which had a focus on separates and interesting details that were effortless cool.

Lastly, the closing show by Roverto Cavalli which wrapped up the whole fashion event. Alongside Robert Cavali was supermodel Song Kyunga as his star model, which added to the enjoyment of the show. It was indeed an eye-opening experience for me, exposing to the wide styles and designs of the various labels and designers. It was second to none— stalking big names and socialites, catching up with fellow bloggers, swooned by the great runway collection, the fashion week experience is truly beyond!

Dottie Tan; staying true to herself

"The best thing in life is make a living out of what you like", says Dorothy Tan who is better known as Dottie in the blog scene. Formerly the co-founder of fashionation.com, Dottie shares her success of being one of Singapore's most famous bloggers.

During the interview with Dottie in class, she mentioned that having an identity is important. A blogger should write about things that he or she likes, ample research (including eye-catching high-quality images) has to be done when planning a post. These are just a few of the many points to note in order to churn out a good blog post.

I asked her, "We all know you as a fashion blogger but in truer life you've been a?" She replied very sweetly that even though she would like to think she is not very much different, she is definitely not one-dimensional. She majored in political science in school, and like every other person she has her personal life - enjoys film, music and beer. Interestingly, Dottie isn't very "fashion-y" as she puts it. Anyhow, she has come so far and is doing an awesome job so we wish her the best in her brand new fashion blog which she is currently working on.
